Or it should be the

"I like love USC football so much, I am like a total die hard fan ... oh wait who was the head coach before Pete Carol, I dunno probably some legend that won like 5 national championships..."

jafidler.. how'd ya like them tigers beatin' up on ole florida.. hopefully it will keep them out of the nat'l championship this year... so long as lsu can keep doing what they're doing..

um...correct me if i'm wrong but i don't believe that the recent crop of coaches to precede pete carroll won many championships. paul hackett didn't win shit, and although john robinson & larry smith won a few pac ten titles & rose bowl games they didn't score the "mythical" national championship.

clearly pete carroll is an exceptional coach. in fact, i don't think it's a coincidence that he set the stage for the new england patriots to become the premier nfl team as he preceded bill belichick as head coach of the pats...

so unless you're a usc song girl, try not to get your underwear in a bunch over pete carroll...

while the rest of the world was watching that southern cal-udub snorefest (note to sc pretty boys, you can't hit the opposing team after the whistle; it's a called a personal foul; guess petey didn't teach you that one), i was watching that incredible auburn/florida game. now that's the way football was meant to be played - smash mouth football (before the whistle). despite all my crimson tide allegiances, i was rooting for the tigers to stick it to the gators.

actually the best game on saturday night was the ohio state - minnesota matchup. the golden gophers have some very nice new golden uniforms.

on any given game day, any SEC team can beat any other SEC team.. regardless if they are ranked #1 or #100. That's what makes the SEC so great. It's impressive to survive the the SEC undefeated.

I'm tired of people dogging the Pac-10. Yes USC has been beating our heads in for a while now but they do that to everyone (except Texas). Anything that people say about their own conference is true for the Pac-10.

"on any given game day, any SEC team can beat any other SEC team.. Regardless if they are ranked #1 or #100. That's what makes the SEC so great. It's impressive to survive the the SEC undefeated." Remember last year when Oregon State beat SC?

"I still think that Big 10 football is the best if for no other reason than the long traditions and rivalries." The Oregon-Oregon State "Civil War" is 110 years old! The Washington-Washington State game has been played for 100 years (although under different names). The first "Duel in the Desert" was played in 1899. Hello "the Big Game"? And SC and (F)UCLA have contested the Victory bell since the 30's

"the fact that people in the Midwest and particularly, the south, live, eat, and breath college football." There are plenty of people out here that are the same. It's just that aside from 3, all of our campuses are in Major metro areas. Just because our cities don't shut down on game day doesn't mean we don't eat, sleep and breath college football.

Ask anyone who's been, I know for a fact that Husky Stadium, Autzen Stadium and Memorial stadium while smaller are no quieter or filled with less vitriol than anywhere in the SEC or Big 11.

And yes Big 11, THE PAC-10 can count.

And no playoff? The whole season is a playoff. Lose once and you're done. Lose twice, the season is a bust. You go 10-2 over a 12 game stretch and your season is considered a failure? THAT'S pressure.

Now, don't read this as me hating the other conferences. As a fan of college football I have a healthy respect for all other schools (except Oregon State and Washington). I like the pageantry of the SEC, walking through the grove and the 18 MPH speed limit at Ole Miss, Yell Practice at Texas A&M, The constant arrests of Florida State and Miami football players, The fact that Stanford's Phone # is 1-800-Beat-Cal, The fact that 1 person from Wisconsin has ever played for Minnesota Hockey, the shirt I saw this weekend of the outline of Ohio and "worst state ever" on the front and "Go Blue" on the back, My friend from Nebraska whose shirt says "Iowa: Idiots Out Walking Around", The Red River Shootout and the annual "Porn vs. Corn" USC-Nebraska game. I'm just saying that everything you like about the SEC, ACC, Big 12, Big 11, Big East and all the others exists in the Pac-10. It just happens after you guys go to sleep.

I grew up in Pullman, and as much as I want to agree, I just can't. Going to a UW game or Wazzu or Oregon game is fantastic, deafening, and you practically walk out your door and get carried to the stadium by the crowd.. But going to a UCLA or Arizona home game and sitting in the season ticket holders reserved section is like taking a nap on the lawn. No one knows who the quarterback is, and when people chant, it is because they want the basketball coach fired. There isn't a school in the Big 10 like that.

I have a hard time believing Indiana and Vanderbilt football games are that exciting to go to.

It just grates on me to hear people talk about the Pac-10 like it's the Mountain West. I'll take USC and Cal over Ohio State and Wisconsin any day.

and yes Cal...I know the story...

but i would not take the coliseum and wherever cal plays over the horseshoe (snakepit) and camp randall. that is the difference between the big ten/sec and pac ten.

iu has an explosive offense this year. frankly any college game is fun to go to. this weekend indy hosts the circle city classic, a game betweeen two hbc's. i don't know who's playing but it brings in a ton of caish to the city.

jafidler: It's obvious we both are passionate about college footaball. I appreciate your passion. but we can sit here all day taking shots at other conferences. So, I am not going to continue, because I like and appreciate the different aspects that each program brings to college football as a whole. Which makes it by far my favorite sport. I agree with Vado, I've been to every stadium in the pac-10 except Arizona, and I always had a blast.

The Pac-10 will still have two teams in BCS bowls.

fair enough, and perhaps you're right; i've never even been to a pac-10 game before. i'm also just taking pot shots at that fairweather fan, puddles, and his beloved trojans.

seriously, though, i think the debate actually goes well beyond college football; i think there are strong regional cultural rivalries embedded within the whole debate.

but we can call a truce for now.

go ducks (except when they're playing meee-chigan)!

you've got to be kidding me. the pac ten does suck (except for the trojans)...it's probably a good thing that nobody bothers to watch it. i mean honestly, i rather know where paris hilton is eating dinner this evening than waste my time watching orgeon or cal-berkeley attempt to play football.

oh, and the coliseum does not suck any more than the horseshoe or camp randall...

in fact, it's actually much more historic than those stadiums because it has hosted olympics and other ancient events. go trojans!!!

is everyone burned out from a big week last weekend?

no matter how good purdue or illinois might be, it's hard to get fired up about their big ten match-ups.

are there any interesting games this weekend? (outside of a tarnished red river shootout.)
