yeah, some ohio state fan came up to me on sunday when i was wearing my michigan shirt and gave me all this crap. what a dumbass. doesn't he know that the entire big 10(1) lost on that day? that every team ranked below michigan (which is almost every team) also lost on that day as well?!

le bossman,

any day michigan loses is a happy day for an ohio state fan

and if you thought that way, why didn't you call him a dumbass to his face?

not to make this into a whole rivalry thing...but every time
a higher ranked team loses i don't see it as a loss for my
team...i see it as one more spot my team moves up...and
one more opponent that has to play perfect the rest of
the way to even be considered for the national title.

I agree with that stance- I root for any Pac team against a non-conference opponent. Of course I don't feel too badly when UCLA loses, but I know that a win from them makes us all look better.

Of course, some of these games are lose-lose situations for the teams, my team's recent bout against Idaho included. If you win, then so what, big deal, it was only Idaho/Appalacian State/Temple or similar. If you lose, it's the disaster of the year. If you win by less than 45 points, you "sputtered" and your reputation recieves as big of a hit as if you'd lost to a bigger name program. I wish they'd just stop scheduling those crap games in the first place.

rationalist
you have to have a couple creampuffs on your schedule...
i remember one game when psu beat akron or something
by 81 or something...joepa had the fourth string qb in by
the second or third quarter and he ran for an 80 yard
touchdown...afterwards the coach from the other team told
joe that he was being disrespectful for running up the score..
joepa went nuts and told him that he did the best he could
to keep the score down and that next time the guy should
prepare his team better...

and eastcoast...maybe not all osu fans are d'bags...but
you're not being a very good representative.

i should add that i do have quite a few friends that are osu
fans.. and we have no trouble getting along and their very
good people and i don't typically have problems with any fans
in particular.

Ain't no quakers on this thread eastcoast...

I've lived all over the country and have hung out with all types of college football fans - Big East, ACC, SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, PAC 10, etc. By far, OSU, ND, and Miami fans are the worst - They are sore losers and sore winners with hardly a shred of sportsmanship or appreciation for the game. But that's just my opinion...

Michigan losing to a Div. I-AA (or whatever it's called) team looks bad for the Big 11. Especially when they are trying to say they are the best conference in the nation.

Rationalist, it's like siblings. we may fight with our own to the death, but in the end, we still family. I'd be happy if Washington never won a conference game again. But out of conference...I'd like to see any Pac-10 team do well.

Go Ducks! keep the Michigan slide going this week.

huh? where did quakers come into this? For the record, technically I am one. My mother was, and I was baptised as such.

That was stupid of me. I’m sorry. I got to heated, it’s like when you try to “talk” politics with friends. That never turns out great, always ends in arguments and bitterness. I’ll have to be more open minded from now on. I’m trying.

U of Penn's mascot is the Quaker... eastcoast was erroneously calling me out as someone that went to Penn... I had to correct him (unless he actually meant it to be an insult).

so i read you wrong in the Penn State thread, dml?

Sep 4, 07 3:23 pm  ·

No, you read correctly - I went to PSU. Your "figures, this guy went to penn" line above implies that I went to Univ of Penn (the quakers), belonging to the Ivy League... Did you flunk out of OSU or something? :)

wow, that's wild to hear that michigan lost to appalachia state. but given the bcs's propensity for bringing one-in-a-million scenarios to life i wouldn't be the least bit surprised if wolverines run the table (possible even in dominant fashion) and are one of a handful of teams with one loss arguing for inclusion in the bcs title game...you wouldn't think it'd happen, but i guess we'll have to wait and see...

besides the fighting irish will probably have the mythical national championship wrapped up by then anyhow now that jimmy clausen is the man

it's all good eastcoast...

and is going to school in OHIO all that much better than PA?
not that i'm trying to start anything...it just seems like a
kind of one to one comparison...although columbus has
better architecture.

if you went to school at USC or UMiami or even Columbia i may
see a reason to be jealous..but OSU?

i'm biased in a way, i'm from MD. i don't want to knock their program here but they didn't have as good a program.

i'm really going to osu for the dual degree in arch/construction management.

Wow - revised rankings just came out - Michigan dropped all the way out of the top 25 in both polls... I figured they'd drop, but not that far... ouch...

Look out Oregon - you're in for an a** whuppin'

gators at 3 & 4 in the AP / USA today polls respectively. good spot to be. just gotta stay there. and i'll have to put my vote in as USC being grossly overrated.

whether or not the gators repeat this year or not, i'd love to see an SEC whuppin' on the pac10 in any bowl game.

i had a roomie who was a gators fan and boy are they
intolerable at the moment...nonstop gator talk all year long.
i was sad that donovan decided to go back cause it seemed to
be the only thing stopping the sun from shining up florida's behind.

Wow. Columbus has better architecture than State College? It would take a lot of Mack and Merrill to make up for two Eisenman buildings.

Michigan will not run the table - I say they go 7-5 in regular season play.
Notre Dame would be a 6-6 team if they weren't playing the Coast Guard academy 3 times.

janosh...

you know that penn state has charles moore right? and they have
the new HUB by.....PA architect number one...taking what was a nice
building and made it in into schloch.

the new architect building is ok...but what iconic buildings are there in
state college..although i like the church on beaver.

the two eisenman buildings were relevant at one time...and are still
worth something in terms of architecture history

I hear ya. It's not like I'm pro-Pennsylvania State, I was only making an unjust shot at Columbus, which I resent because I have to visit it every Christmas holiday. Trip to the Polaris mall, lunch at Panera, and so on. Two formative years of my life were spent in East Lansing, which is basically the same thing as Columbus but with more diversity and a less vibrant economy.

Anyhoo, I don't think that Big Ten campuses and architecture are compatible anyway. Part of the experience is having every building look like it was built off of the master plan for Kiev. Great Architecture in such environments must be limited to the football stadiums. It's amazing how reverentially people treat them... I was at Michigan when VSB installed their halo on the big house and by the way people reacted you would have thought that Trojan had put a billboard on the dome of the Vatican.

Imagine what the architecture building would look like if it brought in as much money as the football program.

Man, what a weird season so far.

I gotta feel for Mallet though. To quote the announcer:

"OK, your about to take your first snap as a college quarterback, we're down by 25 and the crowd has turned on us. Good luck."

Then the female sideline announcer tells all the world he has a "small package".

I mean, every day forward from here is an improvment on that.
