this is like picking George Bush again--someone so ill-experienced and unprepared, but more importantly intellectually inequipped for the position of president, which she will have, because, come on, she's running with McCrypt Keeper. I mean, Obama is young and he's only been in the Senate four years, but he's very intelligent, he's made a name for himself, he's done things with his life. She is young and inexperienced, but she has shown no ability on her own, aside from being governor of a few hundred thousand people for less than two years. Obama is running on his own merits, his own talents, his own organization, his own philosophy and ideas, and his own intellect. She is running on having been selected by someone else, just as GWB was running on being a president's son. She would not have been selected had she not been a young woman. It's ridiculous that she can even be compared to Obama.

In all fairness, you can't say that she would not have been selected had she not been a young woman. Thats a bit sexist. No one has really said why she's been chosen over other, much more qualified candidates. And I don't think anyone's compared her to Obama and they can't compare her to Biden when it comes to political experience.

Ok, enough sticking up for the republican party...

I haven't read anything about why she's been chosen over someone like Lieberman or Romney. Please enlighten me if you have.

lb, mccain in 2000 would have been a strong pick, railroaded by the same guy who's killing his campaign now, karl rove.

at the time, he was more of a moderate.

the whisper campaigns and questioning his patriotism were ridiculous.

since then, 2008 mccain is a completely different person, though he's so out of it, he doesn't seem to think so.

there is a significant difference between graduating at the top of your class from harvard law and the 5th from the bottom of Annapolis. A JD from Syracuse is pretty snazzy degree for Biden.

But a journalism degree from Idaho doesn't provide any intellectual foundation - nor does a beauty pagent prepare her for leadership or governing.

this goes to prove that the average person is stupid and the republicans are the party of stupid white men, ie GWB & McSame.

hmmm...she isn't known, i.e. not connected to the neo con crowd...and she has breasts...oh, and she has some kids...and enjoys killing things with firearms...that is about what you need to know.

now the great part is that she was a sports news anchor and a beauty queen...supah qualified and schtuffs.

Palin sounds like a great person, I think she may need a couple of years of seasoning though, by the next cycle she could be unstoppable. The CONS from conservatives themselves:

http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MWY0YmM3N2JhMTVkYmI0ZjU0OTBiYTY3NmUyMjgxNTc=

I can't wait for Hillary and other female democratic leaders to respond that simply putting a woman does not guarantee women's votes, it is always about ideology and issues.

that's not sexist. Hillary Clinton was not so well-liked solely because she was a woman, but because people identified with her and her views. Likewise, Sarah Palin was not selected by McCain solely because she's a woman, but also because she typifies the far-right wing politices that he's chosen to identify himself with. At the same time, she was chosen after much more qualified, and much more responsible picks were passed over. She was chosen in large part to court the disgruntled Hillary Clinton vote through her gender alone--clearly the same people don't identify with both their policies, but rather their gender and everything that means. Just as in 1992, when Al Gore was chosen because of his policies and his age, Sarah Palin was chosen because of her policies and her gender. Gender, like all things that inform a person's life, impacts who they are, how they are perceived and how to see the world. It's a legitimate reason to vote for someone or choose someone for a position, but it's important in this context to understand that as a choice, it was made largely to court a voting bloc that might been seen as open to reconsidering its party affiliation.

Its an interesting move. I have to say I couldnt guess where theyre going with this, but considering their situation I cant blame them for the hail mary. So theyre gonna try to dig up Hill's voters? Thats it? Just gonna give up on the economy and foreign policy and experience for "hey! weve got a chick!"? Whats next? "Dont pick on me Im old."?

It does at least force camp Obama to retool a bit. Theyve got to be very clever about how they go after this. They can rope them both down to the oil companies easy, and its going to look terrible when theyre dragging Ted Stevens off to jail 2 weeks before the election. Id also say this really puts Hill on deck to get out there in OH and PA and really spell out whats at stake here. Older white women are gonna be a real challenge.

My feeling is they would be wise to use this to just play hard on policy. This isnt personal, its about what will work and what wont.

Thank you thank you thank you God! This is the biggest blessing for the Democrats. A former mayor of a town of 9,000 with only two years as governor for a sparsely populated state, and a built-in controversy, as well as anti-environmental credentials?

Brilliant! God smiles on the Democrats!

C'mon, Poczatek, if you read anything, you'd know that among senators, Biden has the strongest reputation on women's rights. He authored the Violence Against Women Act in 1994. So your calling him a chauvinist is just naive.

And how bad-ass could you possibly know Palin to be? She's only been in the national media for two years, and in that time, has been sucked into the same sorts of scandals that seem to plague all Alaska politicians.

In this case, she fired her ex-brother in law, who was a sherriff, mainly because of his divorce. Oh, and when HIS boss wouldn't fire the sherriff, Palin fired the boss too.

It's all very beautiful (just like she is!)

It's the creative imagination of the homosapien mammal well documented as something we seek out, be it in any number of myths and faith in them. and that is OK as long as people remember we all share the most important things in life in common. intrinsic needs, then take strategies to not deny the next what we our selfs value as well.

back to Biden vs Polin he championed the Violence Against Women Act
I think he will have no problem to debate her and she will show herself to be irrational(like putting her assistant on administrative leave pending investigation of her abuse of power), and maybe loose some marbles in the process.

Let me explain the three very compelling reasons why she was chosen:

1. She's young.

2. She's a woman.

3. She's hot.

Now let me explain the one very compelling argument for why this was the very stupidest choice McCain could have made (and why it's evidence of what a bad, kneejerk president he would make):

1. She comes from a state that has the same population as Portland, Oregon;

her experience prior to becoming governor in 2007[/] was as mayor of Wasilla, a little suburb of 9000;

her experience prior to that was twofold: she was on the PTA, and she and her husband ran a snowmobile company.

In a year in office, she's already sucked into a major corruption scandal.

I.....kid......you......not. One heartbeat or melanoma relapse from the presidency.

I'd be hard pressed to name [i]anyone I know
who would be a worse choice.

Aug 29, 08 3:16 pm  ·

Wrongo, el idioto!

Obama was the editor of the Harvard Law Review. He was a community organizer in Chicago and a civil rights attorney (dealing with the law), a teacher of constitutional law at the University of Chicago for 9 years, and a state senator in Illinois from 1997 to 2004.

He was elected to the US senate in 2004, four years ago. He has been in public service his entire adult life. He's been in governance for 11 years.

Sarah Palin began as governor in 2007. That's last year. Prior to that she was the mayor of a 9,000 person town. Prior to that, she was on the PTA of her son's high school. And prior to that she ran a snowmobile business with her husband.

Which of these two people do you want negotiating with China and Russia? And, FRAC, if you say Palin, I'll know you're disingenuous.

again, Obama is young and has less experience than some people (but as farwest pointed out, a good deal nonetheless), but he won a very competitive election based on his own intellect, organizational skill, persona, message and work. Granted, he had helpers, advisors, managers, handlers, etc, but this was a campaign he ran and one in which he gained the respect and vote of people. This is much different than being selected by a nominee. Sarah Palin not only has no experience in governance, but also she has not presented herself, and most importantly, she has neither proven herself nor been deemed worthy of the role to which she has been appointed. there is no comparison.

look farwest, makeArch et al i realize as a fiscal conservative i don't fit in with most architects but there's no need for ad hominem attacks it's just so tired.

for one thing this is obama against mccain, not obama against palin. so 'who do i want negotiating with china and russia?' well that would be mccain.

second i would argue that running a town as mayor and then running a state as governor is more executive experience than teaching law, being a state legislator, then a senator. how's the approval rating of congress these days? yeah, just slightly above bush's approval rating, which isn't saying much.

and if we're comparing vp's and state population (i didn't know you had to come from a populous state to run for office) then delaware is just slightly above alaska's population. lets wait for the debates to decide this.
