This week there are some fascinating talks and events
to fill your evenings, including a discussion of automated environments, a talk about designing with mental health in mind, and a luxurious 1640s themed palatial
ball.

Bricks Made of Air: poetry for architects / architecture for poets | 28 February
‘Every architect is necessarily a great poet. He must be a great original interpreter of his time, his day, his age’ – Frank Lloyd Wright
This evening event is a chance to see poetry-inspired architects explore the relationship between the two disciplines. Art and architecture will be entwined by lively poems and discussions.
The Baltic Material Assemblies | Opening 1 March
Materiality can communicate so much in a project, and this event at the RIBA seeks to explore this. The expression of Baltic politics and national boarders is here expressed through geology.
Automated environments: Feminist futures | 5 March
The built environment shapes our cities, but how far can this help create an inclusive social awareness? This talk seeks to argue that automation both reinforces and eliminates gender association.
Design Change Makers: Mental health | 28 February
Mental health awareness is starting to be incorporated into all aspects of our day-to-day lives. This event, the first in a series looking at 'Design Change Makers', will focus on how designers can change the world around them through their projects.
RA Lates: Night at the Palace | 3 March
Visit the RA on the
3rd for a night of decadent wonder, as the building is transformed into King
Charles I's Whitehall Palace. There will be banquets complete with political
dinner-time speeches, ruff-making workshops, dances, and secret rooms full of
artists.
