Night at the Museum

Portfolio Link

This project is a skyscraper proposal in New York City that aims to serve as a transitional space for inhabitants of the city to study the stars. It sits just north of Central Park, conversing with the skyscrapers across the length of the park and guiding visitors into the skyscraper’s enclosure, inviting guests to connect the natural landforms and geology of Central Park to the ever-expanding heights of the stars up above us.

The project is modeled after the docked rocket diagram, with much of the public program making up the base, with a move towards scientific research and study as you move up the towers. “Satellite” buildings in the form of a school and a museum branch off of the beacon at the base, but remain intrinsically linked all throughout; no matter where you stand in the complex, you will be standing in a center of scientific pursuit.

The sharing of knowledge extends beyond its enclosure; screens that wrap around the full width of the towers will have projections of the current starmaps in order to connect the city to the stars hidden by light pollution. Ideally, this project would become a beacon to the city and guide it back to the stars so easily forgotten amidst the city lights.
