ReVision: Art in the Americas

ReVision: Art in the Americas was the first special exhibition to open in Denver Art Museum’s extensively newly renovated Martin (North) Building, originally designed by Gio Ponti. Designing the exhibition experience required complex coordination of about 180 objects of diverse scales and media, ranging from ancient to contemporary, and with a plethora of specific display requirements. Highlighting much of the Museum’s Latin American and Ancient collection to tell the story of the Americas, the narrative unfolds in the 6,580 sq ft space along a trajectory of a calibrated sequence of a variety of spaces beginning with a meandering space reminiscent of the Amazon river to introduce themes related to the land, a dramatic jewel-box like space where visitors can intimately encounter gold and silver treasures, and concluding with a circular space where visitors are immersed in portraits and are encouraged to reflect on what it means to be American. We also designed graphics in the spaces leading up to the gallery as well as a modular wall system that could be used in the gallery going forward.
