With adaptability and versatility in the workplace, I can effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Discovery World, Design Futurist Intern

The Design Futurist Intern learns how design is taught in a public setting while gaining valuable customer service skills. They will also be introduced to industrial design tools and equipment such as vacuum formers, heat sealers, a sample cutter, and laser cutters. Lastly, they can function as an in-house designer/educator in a professional setting.

The Bachelor of Architecture (BARCH) program is a five-year undergraduate professional program designed to prepare students for successful careers in architecture and related fields. The program combines technical and cultural aspects of architecture, equipping students with skills in architectural thinking, design, construction, technology, visualization, fabrication, and simulation. Through a four-year core curriculum and one year of specialized study, students engage in design studios, lectures, and seminars to develop problem-solving skills and gain expertise in areas such as architectural technology, design factors, and urbanism. Graduates can pursue licensure as Architects or further studies in advanced programs offered by the UW-Milwaukee School of Architecture and Urban Planning.

Bachelor of Science, Architectural Studies (BSAS) is a four-year undergraduate pre-professional program that prepares students for graduate studies in architecture and related design and construction fields. The primary goal of the BSAS program is to introduce students to architecture as both a technical and cultural practice. The four-year BSAS program is comprised of a three-year core, followed by one year of specialized and individualized study. Over the course of their studies, a BSAS students enroll in a variety of studios, lectures and seminars to accrue skills in architectural making, thinking, design, visualization, digital fabrication, prototyping, and simulation. In addition to learning essential analytical and creative-problem solving skills, students are required to complete courses in structures & construction, environmental & building technology, human behavior, and contemporary criticism. Graduates can continue on by applying to the M.Arch, M.S., or MUP program.

Milwaukee Area Technical College, Architectural Technology

Associate of Applied Science, Architectural Technology (AAS) is a two-year program that prepares students for work in architectural and construction-related fields. Students are introduced to architectural drafting through sketching techniques and receive extensive training in computer-aided drafting and Building Information Modeling (BIM) using AutoCAD and Revit (BIM) software. Construction materials and methods, building codes, and mechanical and environmental systems also are studied.

Additional program details: Construction materials and methods for wood frame, masonry, concrete and steel construction are studied. Building codes are reviewed. Mechanical and environmental systems dealing with heating and ventilating, plumbing, electricity, life safety, lighting and acoustics are covered. Courses also explore the history and theory of architecture, building structural systems, and architectural practices and procedures.

Bradley Technology High School, Architectural Drafting

Bradley Tech is the premier technology and trade high school in Milwaukee. Located in the heart of the Walker's Point neighborhood, the school educates more than 1,000 students from across the city. To support students in achieving academic and personal success, Bradley Tech partners with MATC and offers college-credit classes in career pathways that include construction, design, manufacturing, and pre-engineering. Students can obtain college credits while developing workplace skills in carpentry, graphic arts, web design, machine tooling, welding, and design drafting. Students have access to AP, honors-level, and Project Lead the Way courses. Internship and youth apprenticeship opportunities are also available. The school has been honored as a PBIS School of Merit for utilizing PBIS to reinforce positive behaviors.

Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits in a program at Milwaukee Area Technical College with preference given to students enrolled in one of the building construction programs such as Bricklaying & Masonry; Architectural Woodworking/Cabinetmaking; Carpentry; Electricity; Landscape Horticulture; Architectural Technology; Air Conditioning; Refrigeration and Heating. All applicants must have & maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from instructors, employers, or others who know the applicant’s skills and abilities. Applicants must verify their level of financial need as determined by the Federal Student Financial Aid program. Applicants must be making satisfactory academic progress as defined by MATC’s standards of academic success to be considered for renewal of this scholarship.
