Best Blog on Architecture and Design

ZahasLover

I love Design websites that I want to read and collate all of them. Archinect of course tops the list. Can anyone share the most interesting Design and Architecture Blogsites? I want to trim down my bookmarks list. I just want to get quality ones. Please share any Design websites, even the crappy ones...

Thanks!!!

Not a fan of alltop for two reasons:

1. sites that simply regurgitate blog feeds are generally only developed by people trying to make a few bucks off the work of others (parasites!)

and

2. my site didn't make their list! ...it's funny how the desire to fit in so easily overturns any moral compass I may have had.

RLL and marikit.

i see your points. i just came across it by accident..and thought it was a good way to see a bunch of blogs/sites at once... i guess what i should've done is just copy the links of all the sites on there instead.

i don't think that all of those 'accumulating' (or whatever word is best)
sites are bad though... seems to me that any publicity is good publicity really...especially for design blogs since they don't always reach a wide ranging audience by themselves.

Lars...

I understand, and in fact give away content to some sites (archRecord, Greensource, etc.) for the publicity. I see the utility as well (I have tons of feeds collected in my google homepages), and frankly alltop is better than most in that it's just the feeds themselves and offers direct links instead of directly copying content as some others do. I would almost always allow the use of my content if asked, but I like to be asked...

In addition to seconding many of the sites mentioned above, there are some great blogs not mentioned here: Mammoth is fantastic, and I've really been enjoying the architectural posts on Quiet Babylon this summer/fall. Mason (Archinect's Mason) runs InfraNet Lab, which is consistently fantastic. Infrastructurist is well worth a long read. And there are at least a dozen others I could name.

jplourde, I'm sorry you feel like my blog has degenerated into self-promotion, but I would say a few things. First, yes, I have definitely mentioned my book quite a lot this summer, but, to be honest, I'm excited as fucking hell about it, and whether or not anyone buys it, I really want people to see what's in it. I spent a lot of time working on it, and there's some really cool stuff in there – stuff that's not on the blog. But I apologize if I've overdone it. Second, I've also been mentioning a lot of talks and events that I've been doing over the past year or so, but you can imagine that it doesn't make a huge amount of sense for me not to tell people who read BLDGBLOG that I will be giving a free talk in their city in a few weeks' time; I love meeting the people who read the site, and I often talk about things during those lectures that would unfold very differently online. So it's not meant as self-promotion - after all, I don't financially gain from mentioning any of these events or lectures - it's simply a way to say, hey, I'm going to be in your city next week talking about some things, it's free, and it'd be cool to say hello.

In any case, if the combined effect of all of this is to have inadvertently created "geoff manaugh self promotion land," then clearly I need to rethink how I'm using my own website to tell people what I'm up to! At the same time, though, I also think it's worth knowing why I'm doing things that way. Finally, it's an unfortunate economic reality, but there is no one out there promoting The BLDGBLOG Book. When I mention it on BLDGBLOG, I am the only one mentioning it. Authors - unless they're Dan Brown - literally have no one out there representing them or their books. This makes authors look like tits sometimes, but there aren't many other attractive options.

Anyway, blah blah blah. I just wanted to respond to that.

Some other blogs worth reading (again, in addition to the ones already mentioned in this thread): Strangeharvest, Interactive Architecture dot Org, HTC Experiments, Lebbeus Woods, Brand Avenue, sit down man, you're a bloody tragedy, Some landscapes, movingcities, Life Without Buildings, Butterpaper, Fantastic Journal, and many, many, many, many more. There is a huge list of amazing blogs out there (including many I will instantly regret not including in that list).

my copy of the bldgblog book arrived in this corner of the world last week - it's a lot of fun. I'm running a site-analysis focused studio for first-years next semester, and I'm going to use some excerpts as triggers.

geoff

not that i don't think you shouldn't self promote...what other reason is there to have a blog and/or website? but your book is not lacking for press as far as i can tell... i see it getting mentions all over. probably due to your hard work i'd imagine, but it's definitely getting mentioned...a far cry from 'i am the only one mentioning it'

just doing a simple search you can find it all over different blogs. i mean you even published it in dwell.

anyway...congrats on putting together a book and gettin it published etc...but i'd also learn to own your self promotion (i don't think there's anything wrong with it)..but understand it could be a detterent to others in reading your blog.
