a few more suggestions and a reason why...

i already mentioned PLY...

i'll also add their UMich compatriots PEG OLA...

and archinectors Lateral Architecture... (do they count as american? or canadian?)

i think that all of these guys are right on the precipice... they're right where LTL was a few years ago in that they've done some great speculative/research/competition projects... they've also built a few small but very interesting projects... and now i think that they're ready to start graduating to larger and more complex projects...

I would be more interested in "emergents" that comes from outside the OMA, FOA, or Steven Holls vineyards....and that does more than design pretty dressing rooms.

why do we care about the US, exactly?

I think Toll Brothers in-house design team are probably the most interesting thing going on there...

I have always like Les's work and Henry Tom was a classmate, sat right behind me in Studio for a semester.

Not so nuts about this website, but it does give you a feel for their work.

John,
I wonder if the following criteria may help with measuring/endorsing these wide array of practices:

* Research/knowledge
- technological/scientific
- cultural, historical, sociological
- theory, conceptual explorations, publication

* Application and innovation
- green/sustainable technologies
- fabrication methods
- structural/engineering
- urban strategies

* Growth potential
- breath and scope in works
- leadership and management
- reputation
