although I am a proponent of drug use as long as its recreational and doesn't affect your work I would have to agree with others and tell you to try arduous exercise first...
yoga is hard and makes me sweat like a mother, but i walk away feeling more relaxed and cleansed more than I do tired...and I do go regularly, 1-2x/week with my lady...but i wouldn't consider it arduous enough to make me tired at the end of the day.
let me back up by saying that i used to have the same exact problem you do, I would wake up anywhere from 2-5x a night mostly becaus I had shit on my mind that made me go crazy...the only solution to this i found to be was running...i run everyday for 20-30 minutes and I swear by it, shit works, makes you feel good, gets you in shape, and most importantly, makes my ass tired enough to pass out at midnite...try it, trust me...take it from someone who has had the same problem youre dealing with now

Smoking weed doesn't help me sleep in any way, one of the reasons I don't do it, because I have a fairly active mind when relaxed and the chemicals only enhance that unfortunately.
But then I'm a clincal insomniac (seen by my often latenight posts on archinect)
So my advice and what works for me is
set a regular sleep pattern - bed just after midnight awake at 7:15a
just before bed, grab a shower - nothing too cold/warm, climb into bed and do a suduko puzzle - the multiple computations gets that undue energy out of the brain, and ready for sleep
I could go for a late night burn right now. Smoke a little green, turn out the lights, sit on my bed, listen to some radiohead. yeah. I'm feelin' it a little more now.
go for it mdler. do it for all us small town folks from roostershit, TX who don't have easy access to bud. if it doesn't work out, you can always just mail me the leftovers.

mdler, the only way i get to sleep is by reading the UBC. pick out a couple chapters and try to get through them. out like frazier. you will never make it through more than an hour, and you'll pick up totally useless information to amaze your co-workers the next day.
