Project Manager - Commercial Studio (8+ years experience)

Our Commercial Studio is looking to bring on an Architect with 8-10+ years of architectural work experience who will act as the Project Manager for several commercial projects including design-build. We want to connect with someone with a strong commercial background who can lead and manage a team of designers and interact directly with a diverse clientele. Our ideal candidate is interested in collaborating with our team of builders and network of subcontractors and is eager to elevate the design conversation around light and mid-level commercial projects throughout Maine and greater New England.

As a Project Manager in our Commercial Studio, you can expect to:

  • Generate creative solutions to design briefs - understand and present the project’s goals, opportunities, and challenges.

    • Implement or create project documentation at all phases of the design process. 

    • Generate renderings and graphics to communicate design intent. 

    • Be well-versed in building code requirements and creative application of such.

    • Present design solutions to clients and project stakeholders.

  • Manage administrative, creative, and technical aspects of multiple custom commercial projects.

    • Manage design teams of 1-3 architects/designers - with creative oversight by Director or Principal Architect. 

    • Plan and lead internal and external team meetings.

    • Facilitate day-to-day direct client contact in a professional and courteous manner, especially when discussing difficult topics like budgets and delays. 

    • Provide technical support, review, and oversight for projects within the studio. 

    • Actively manage client budgets, schedules, and programs of assigned projects.

    • Review project design, financials, and health of client relationship with Director at regular intervals.

    • Allocate and manage architectural design fees to ensure client’s expectations are consistently in focus. 

    • Engage and manage project consultants. 

    • Collaborate with in-house or external Construction Project Managers. 

    • Review and issue project invoices.

    • Visit job sites to ensure construction conforms to construction documents and design intent. 

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of work experience in an architectural practice

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited institution 

  • Registered Architect - Highly Preferred

  • Technical knowledge of design and construction processes in light and moderate commercial construction techniques. 

  • Strong and clear communication skills - comfortable managing a team and coordinating with clients in a professional and positive manner. 

  • Ability to manage project budget and schedule - guiding project team and clients following those targets.

  • Experience using Revit (or other BIM software)

  • Comfortable using Project Management software (Monograph preferred)

  • A proven history of effective leadership and success in delivering $1million+ projects
