DESCRIPTION

Our studio is seeking an experienced designer / project manager for the position of Project Manager. The primary function of our studio is producing the work of a New York-based artist, including architectural scale exhibitions at leading, international museums. 

The Project Manager is a pivotal role within the studio, responsible for the successful oversight and completion of studio projects. This position involves comprehensive project management, encompassing planning, execution, coordination, and team leadership. The Project Manager collaborates closely with internal teams, external stakeholders, and vendors to ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards while aligning with the studio's vision and objectives.

The role is a pro-active, solutions-oriented position. The Project Manager position moves seamlessly between the hands-on and managerial aspects of the studio, and is able to both inspire and hold accountable all project-related teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and execute a diverse range of studio projects:

    • Exhibition design, construction management, artwork production, artwork R&D, sculpture design and fabrication management, exhibition publications, film production, events, etc.

  • Lead and coordinate internal and external teams

  • Create and track project calendars, meetings, minutes, budgets, reports, invoices, and personnel - ensuring adherence to timelines, aesthetic goals, and financial constraints

  • Lead and document concise meetings with studio partners and project stakeholders

  • Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, vendors, and suppliers to support project objectives

  • Lead the development and execution of design studies, physical models, and architectural drawings for exhibitions

  • Oversee site visits for quality control across various project components, ensuring compliance with studio standards

  • Create visual reports to monitor vendor performance and ensure adherence to project standards

  • Coordinate PR and social media activities related to projects and studio initiatives

  • Participate in the organization and coordination of studio spaces and renovation projects

  • Inspect artworks (on and off-site, including international travel) and create inspection reports

  • Ability and willingness to handle artworks and art-making materials whenever necessary

  • Mentor and motivate less experienced team members

  • Contribute to a positive team culture and create common goals

  • Contribute to the success around studio-wide production-related goals, challenges, and strategies

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management and architecture / exhibition design

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; advanced degree is advantageous

  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects from initiation to completion, meeting deadlines and budgetary requirements

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate team members towards achieving project goals

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to build and maintain relationships at all levels

  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D design software and project management tools

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite

  • Critical eye for detail

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities and requirements

  • Track record of high-level problem solving and solution-oriented thinking
