so despite the events of the past year, that list has

Bank Officer at #14

???????

Figured a lot of those guys were out of work too.

not bank teller... bank officer - branch managers, VPs...

or maybe it's just an average thing... even if you incoporate the number that have been laid off, the sweet bonuses the banks are giving out still make 'bank officer' the 14th best job for this year.

but even bank teller's are ranked higher than architects. damn.

Actuary has been #1 since I was in college 20 years ago.

I don't know what a historian does, but they must be doing it right.

And the last list about worst jobs said software engineers were going to suffer in the coming year along with us, this list has them at #2. My takeaway is: don't believe lists.

Not sure how they come up with that list but # 175 - Highway Patrol Officer starting Salary $30k

WAY off. They make more like $45-$50k while they are still in Police Academy, that's day one before you even become a cop.

And that's a number that's easy to check, it's public record.

Second that psycho-mullet thats quite a number skew this chart has going on. I also dont see how Registered Nurse is under architect! They are in way more demand than architects right now and make pretty good money, this list suuuuuucks.

where is porn star on this list?

CNBC says they are having tough times too since you can get your porn on the internet for free these days.

and they might have the salaries off but for architects it seems just about right ~ $70k midlevel might even be generous in this economy.

roustabout number 200
had to look that up - traveling circus workers and oil rig workers

and just so im not mistaken, "midlevel salary" is the salary of
an architect who has been at the same firm for some time right?

"roustabout" may be my next career move, lists be damned! -- although i thought they all died out in the Victorian era.

Does CNBC give any addresses where we can find this free porn?

I think they threw roustabout in just to make everyone go look it up in the dictionary... they could have just called it general laborer.

Look at the top 100 Alexa websites. I'm sure there will be plenty in there.

A roustabout is not a general laborer though.

A roustabout is another name for a roughneck, slickback or whatever cutesy colloquial name there is for an oil field rig worker.

It use to be a popular profession in Wyoming before the crystal meth craze came in. But even people in Wyoming knew that job was a fad. Why would you need people for oil/gas when all of the equipment once installed is automatic?

I had an tell me at the only coffee shop in an 50 miles radius in the Big Horn Mountains something along the lines of, "Just you watch. Those oil men are going to come up here, get all the youngsters to sell away their future for 40, 50, 60 thousand dollars a year. I've seen them gas pumps. They don't need operators. As soon as their pullin' all of the gas out of the ground, they be gone faster than spring snow. Then no one around here isn't going to have no jobs because no one will know a damn thing."

I went there a few times afterwards. Apparently, incredibly wise and insightful backwoods career advice comes with every cup.

And even for being in the middle of the mountains, she still charged 2.75 for a 20 oz cup of coffee.

i think this data debunks the myth of the underpaid architect. without doing the actual math, it looks as if architects are at least in the top 20th percentile of salaries listed for entry, mid level, and top level pay, and is not that far behind other respected professions such as optometrist, dentist, and psychologist who require the same amount of school.

if you don't consider the lack of jobs and disproportionate stress, it's not such bad career.

After looking at the ten worst jobs, I would say no job is the worst job to have.

A drafter is higher probably due to the fact that the position is less stressful as the wsj defined it. Look at the methodology, salary is only one out of five factors in the score.

Donna and Actuary is not a Historian...they are the odds makers for the insurance companies..so think they will remain at the top of the heap for years to come.

I have a close friend who is an actuary....and her job sucks just about as much as ours.
