Have you ever read any of his short stories? There are two large volumes (possibly three...) They're a bit hit and miss but are a great example of his incredible and varied imagination.

Vermilion Sands is not hit or miss at all. The 1000 Dreams of StellaVista is an incredible work

I don't think he cared to be up anywhere with science fiction
