This is good news. I guess New Line finally realized they wouldn't be in business today if it hadn't been for Peter Jackson.

Costume? I look like that everyday, including the icy glare. Somehow I always get a seat on the subway.

God these movies sucked ass, and now they're making another one. I hope this one at least makes sense. I guess New Line spent so much money on special effects, they didnt have enough to hire editors <sarcasm>.

Yes, I'm still bitter Lost in Translation lost out best director and picture oscars to this incoherent behemoth.

New Line Cinema is part of Time Warner. Although I'm sure they were thrilled about the billions LOTR took at the box office, this happened at the same time as they were/are running the Matrix and Harry Potter franchises. They were doing pretty well as it was.
The question more pertinent is perhaps: Why does Peter Jackson want to direct this...I wish he would do the Evangelion movie(s) instead.
Also, looks like MGM is getting a piece of this which is curious...They really only have a single cash cow left, which is Bond.

Total sales from the LOT movies (tickets, dvds, etc.) is an estimated $6 billion, and 100 million copies of the books sold worldwide...yea, just your basic piece of crap <sarcasm>.
