"Conservapedia"

WonderK

Have you guys heard about this?

http://www.conservapedia.com

Here is a brief description from its homepage:

"Conservapedia is a much-needed alternative to Wikipedia, which is increasingly anti-Christian and anti-American. On Wikipedia, many of the dates are provided in the anti-Christian "C.E." instead of "A.D.", which Conservapedia uses. Christianity receives no credit for the great advances and discoveries it inspired, such as those of the Renaissance. Read a list of many Examples of Bias in Wikipedia........You will much prefer using Conservapedia compared to Wikipedia if you want concise answers free of "political correctness". "

I found the entry for cactus to be *particularly* enlightening:

I think the Cactus article might be a joke. I mean, this is from the entry:

"Several species of cactus are now endangered in the west due to "poaching" by collectors and invasive species. But, since Genesis suggests that man has been given dominion over all of the earth, the environmentalist concerns on this note are entirely inappropriate. It may also be that environmentalists, in addition to flauting the Word of God, are merely concerned about the effects that declining cactus populations will have on their supply of mescaline."

Awesome!

Somebody else do a search. There is certainly more hilarity to be had....

i think their article on communism is a bit to narrow minded and blunt:

Communism is government in which the state owns everything and the wealth is divided evenly among the citizens. Communists believe that if they share everything, no one will ever have to work. It is an atheist government not believing in God and only in the "state" as the supreme thing on the earth. The most famous communist government was the USSR or the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was an official government starting in 1922 and ending in 1991.

Ronald Reagan comin ya'lls way, this one is pretty good.

February 6, 1911- June 5, 2004. The fortieth President of the United States from 1981-1989, following Democrat Jimmy Carter and preceding Republican George H. W. Bush and Democrat William J. Clinton. Considered by many to be the greatest American President, Ronald Reagan's greatest accomplishments include leading America peacefully through the Cold War, lowering taxes, promoting a free economy, and staunchly opposing socialism and communism, and ending the Cold War in victory for the United States. Reagan was strongly opposed to the concept of Big government, advocating a reduction in the size and budget of the federal government, although during his terms in office the government size and budget both increased rather than decreasing due to tax-and-spend Democrats. During his terms in office, he faced a Divided government split between Republican and Democrat control. Reagan also served two terms as governor of California from 1967–1975.

In one of his most famous challenges to Soviet Communism in Europe, he publicly uttered the words, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall," before the tearing down of the Berlin Wall separating East and West Germany. He also introduced the idea of "Reaganomics" in which the rich would spend money which would trickle down to the poor.

Dinosaurs first, then gore:

Christians who reject evolution, the Young Earth Creationists believe, based primarily on Biblical sources, but also drawing on archeological and fossil evidence, that dinosaurs were created on the 6th day of the Creation Week[10], approximately 6,000 years ago; that they lived in the Garden of Eden in harmony with other animals, eating only plants[11]; that pairs of various dinosaur baramins were taken onto Noah's Ark during the Great Flood and were preserved from drowning[12]; that fossilized dinosaur bones originated during the mass killing of the Flood[13]; and that some descendants of those dinosaurs taken aboard the Ark still roam the earth today[14].

Here's a real mindtwister: go to the conservapedia, search for an entry, and then input the new url into the pornolizer (http://www.pornolize.com).

I did with the conservapedia entry for "Ronald Reagan", and got the doozy of a sentence:

"Spanked by many to be the greatest American "Muffminer" President, Ronald "The-Champ" Reagan's greatest accomplishments include leading America peacefully through the spanking Cold "Thrushmore" War, lowering raids, raunching a free economy, and staunchly wad pulling socialism and communism, and ending the raunching Cold "Sniff-my-Ass" War in victory for the smooching United S."

It makes no sense, but worth a laugh.

Democrat:

The Democratic party is one of two major political parties in the US.

When the Democrats and Republicans split the control of the presidency and Congress, the US enters a state of Divided government, often resulting in Gridlock.

Catholics identify as Democrats more than Republican, but the opposite is true for Evangelicals. (reference needed)

The official platform of the Democratic party emphasizes strengthening America.[1] Right-wing critics claim, however, that the Democrat voting record reveals a true agenda of cowering to terrorism, treasonous anti-Americanism[3], and comtempt for America's founding principles such as freedom of religion[4].

Republican:

The party of Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, Tom Delay, George H W Bush, Duke Cunningham, George W Bush, Herbert Hoover, Dwight Eisenhower, and Theodore Roosevelt, among others.

Wow, that is so refreshingly unbiased!

architecture is only about churches:

Architecture is the art and science of constructing the built environment.

Architecture in the Middle Ages can be seen in the majestic churches built during that era. There were two main styles: Romanesque and Gothic.

Romanesque architecture is characterized by thick walls, rounded arches and small windows. The Gothic style, developed later, consisted of taller, perpendicular structures with long windows, pointed arches and "flying buttresses" (stone supports on the outer walls of churches).

Gothic architecture, with its tall, pointed spires is said to reflect the desire of people of the Middle Ages to grow closer to God, reaching towards heaven and away from the earth. Tall windows allowed sunlight to illuminate the interior, unlike Romanesque architecture, in which windows were small and interiors were dim. A particularly stunning example of Gothic architecture is the Notre Dame in Paris, on which construction began in 1163 during the reign of Louis VII, and was completed about 200 years later in about 1345. The Notre Dame features a beautiful stained-glass "rose window," which is another distinguishing characteristic of Gothic churches.

Kangaroo:

Like all modern animals, modern kangaroos originated in the Middle East[1] and are the descendants of the two founding members of the modern kangaroo baramin that were taken aboard Noah's Ark prior to the Great Flood. It has not yet been determined whether kangaroos form a holobaramin with the wallaby, tree-kangaroo, wallaroo, pademelon and quokka, or if all these species are in fact apobaraminic or polybaraminic.

After the Flood, kangaroos bred from the Ark passengers migrated to Australia. There is debate whether this migration happened over land[2] -- as Australia was still for a time connected to the Middle East before the supercontinent of Pangea broke apart -- or if they rafted on mats of vegetation torn up by the receding flood waters[2].

a couple of choice nuggets from the entry on John McCain...

McCain opposed renewal of the Patriot act on the grounds that it endorses use of torture...This position alienates many conservatives, who believe that torture is a tool that can and should be used against terrorists.

John McCain, like Gary Hart and John Tower before him, is at the complete mercy of the media. The media could destroy McCain's public reputation based on his role in the Keating Five scandal, and the media can be expected to do so in a general election.

An intangible, but a very important one, is the issue of trust. Many people, particularly evangelicals, do not trust McCain. That can be an insurmountable problem for a presidential candidate.

and some more from Scopes Trial...

Thanks to Bryan's victory in the Scopes trial, Tennessee voters have been educated without oppressive evolution theory for 75 years. Free from the liberal indoctrination, Tennessee voted against native son Al Gore in the 2000 Presidential election - probably the only time a candidate has lost the Presidency due to losing his home state. If Tennessee had a high level of belief in evolution comparable to that of East Germany, then you can bet Gore would have won his state and the Presidency.

Clinton won in 1992 with 43% of the popular vote, capitalizing on public discontent with a weak economy. In his first two years in office, 1993 through 1994, Clinton failed at his massive attempt to "reform" health-care in the United States by some sort of government-backed universal health-care insurance, which would result in effective government control of the health care system. His approach consisted of appointing a planning committee with secret members to reshape this important sector of the economy. The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons successfully sued to force disclosure of the committee members and ultimately to defeat the program.

Clinton also signed into law the Violence Against Women Act, which opened the federal courts to claims of domestic disputes between men and women, which had always been handled under state rather than federal law. A key provision of this law was later ruled unconstitutional in United States v. Morrison.[1]

In 1994, voters expressed their high disapproval of Clinton by giving a landslide victory to Republicans in Congress, where Republicans won 49.9% of the popular vote (compared to the Democrat's 44%). This event was tagged the "Republican Revolution," in which Republicans promised America reforms including term limits, persidential line-item veto, and a balanced budget. That ended much of Clinton's power. He was reelected with 49.2% of the popular vote against a weak Republican candidate in 1996 ( Bob Dole) and a weaker "populist" candidate, H. Ross Perot. The re-election of Clinton despite the demonstrated preference of the electorate in 1994 for Republican candidates may well be due to the electorate's preference for a divided government, in which the executive branch and the congress are representative of different parties, unlike the elections in 2002 or 2004. Clinton spent the remainder of his presidency combatting scandals. A special prosecutor was named to investigate Clinton for allegations of impropriety in the Whitewater real-estate scandal, an investment of Clintons in a failed real estate venture. Although nothing came out of this investigation, and it turned out that Clinton actually lost money on his investment, one of the results of the investigation was that the special prosecutor turned to investigating other Clinton activities, one of which (the Monica Lewinsky scandal) resulted in an impeachment trial. Bill Clinton managed to serve two terms without botching the prosecution of two wars, manipulating intelligence, engaging in a systematic program of torture, or mishandling the federal response to flooding of a major American city. Obviously, he is the devil incarnate. Clinton also attempted to use the American military to kill Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda, an action which was properly seen as a mere attempt to distract the nation from the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

Bill Clinton's wife, Hillary Clinton, has long sought to become president herself. She used her position of influence to obtain the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate without opposition in 2000, and was elected in this safely Democratic state. Reelected in 2006, she is now running for president in 2008.

I tried with some geography -besides people in Archinect -and some other millions in the US I guess/hope-, North Americans are usually portrayed abroad as being incapable of putting any other country in the world map correctly...

so no entry for Barcelona -not to mention Catalonia-, but one about Spain:

"Country located on the Iberian Penninsula. Borderd by the Alantic Ocean to the west and the Mediterranean on the east. Portuagal [sic] is located on the same penninsuala. Is the same country as was in the medieval times. And known for its famous explorers."

and that's all..
of course there's no entry for Portugal because now you know it's in the same penninsuala of Spain, so why bother...

er.... this is so hilarious -main page says this is about "educational, clean and concise entries"- that it must be a joke...
even if for some things, yes, the Spanish State is still like it was in the 15th century..

there's no entry for Le Corbusier -a socialist- or Mies -who left his former wife and three daughters to play with some pervert avant-garde artists in Berlin-, of course...

Gaudí was extremely conservative and a complete and radical catholic (in a medieval sense even)... but no entry either

upside

from the list of 'wikipedia bias'

Wikipedia often uses foreign spelling of words, even though most English speaking users are American. Look up "Most Favored Nation" on Wikipedia and it automatically converts the spelling to the British spelling "Most Favoured Nation", even there there are far more American than British users. Look up "Division of labor" on Wikipedia and it automatically converts to the British spelling "Division of labour," then insists on the British spelling for "specialization" also.[5]. Enter "Hapsburg" (the European ruling family) and Wikipedia automatically changes the spelling to Habsburg, even though the American spelling has always been "Hapsburg". Within entries British spellings appear in the silliest of places, even when the topic is American. Conservapedia favors American spellings of words.

grab your muskets america, the queen of england is trying to make you spell funny.

Strawbeary:

This is my first 'criticism' on archinect so be easy with your rebuttal.

"Why am I not a Christian"...?... I have read previous posts of yours (as I am a relatively long time silent archinector) and for the most part I either: agree, laugh with you, or am left to ponder your statements, but this one was a bit close minded.

Coming from an agnostic (yet 'raised' lutheran) perspective I think maybe I can be relatively objective when I ask: do all architects rationalize equally, do all 'liberals' feel the same, do all blacks/whites/asians etc. carry the same negative stereotypes across the board?

why would christianity be at fault for this ignorant website?

ok that's it... that's a lovely sweater you're wearing today by the way :)
