As long as the McRib and 2 for 1 Fillet O Fish is unharmed, we'll be fine.

and by the way, why is technology always identified with capitalism and consumerist society, and that the demise of the latter always means the demise of the former...couldn't we live in a better, non consumerist society with technology?

agreed. i think an industrialized capitalist society CAN be sustainable but not without effort.

but the author states clearly that he is writing under the premise that an industrial society is unsustainble. interesting notion. i wonder if he believes it.

I heard somewhere recently that calling something "sustainable" makes people scared becuase it means we are not moving forward or backward, and we (as a culture) like to think we are moving forward.

I am convinced that the market place itself (pushed by those who care) will become mroe conscious and we will have a "green" (for lack of a better word) consumerist revolution. I just saw the September Esquire article on McDonough and his work. I recommend everyone read it.

The truth is that consumerism, for all its ills, has brought up a considerable amount of people's standard of living. I am convicend that we can have it both ways.

Im sure you guys have read these, but if not....

geez, i read most of the books mentioned on that site, and now i´m in architecture school trying to get a grip on camera tracking for maya... but i still think that sustainability rules, no need to mention it all the time, and yes, knowledge DOES help!

Sustainability? Why didn't anyone bring up sustainability during the industrial revolution?... the damage has been done, the earth is terminal. Lets sip champagne in our palaces and drive around in SUV's until we're told 'game over'.
